Dentures in Cathedral City, CA

We tend to face several problems from lost or missing teeth. We may have less confidence in our smiles. Also, we have to face difficulty while speaking or eating. However, all these problems can be solved with Dentures. Keep up with the blog to know more about this dental procedure in detail.

What are Dentures?

Dentures act as a tooth replacement that can be removed and put back as and when necessary. It includes a set of artificial teeth that is comfortable and similar to the original teeth. You can either have partial or complete dentures, depending upon the condition of your teeth.

Types of Dentures

Dentures are of two types:

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures have a plastic base to resemble the color of your gums. This base support an entire set of plastic or porcelain teeth. These Dentures are either held by forming a seal in the gum or fixing it permanently using Dental Implants.

Partial Dentures

Partial Dentures involve dentures made either with a plastic base or a metal framework to support a few teeth. It is fixed in your mouth with the help of clasps and becomes adopted by the surrounding teeth.

Procedure Involved In Dentures

After the teeth have been completely extracted from the mouth, the dentist waits for about 8 to 12 weeks until the bone and the gum tissue heals and changes shape.

The process begins with the dentist taking multiple impressions or molds of the oral tissue to support the denture. The impressions are sent to the dental lab, where models are made. These models will act as a guide for creating Dentures. The dentist will place your dentures in your mouth in the next appointment and ensure that it is fitted precisely.

Aftercare for Dentures

Dentures should be taken care of appropriately to make them last longer. Thus:

  • You have to hold the dentures accurately because they are very delicate and might break if dropped.
  • Avoid drying out your Dentures. Ensure to place them in Denture Cleanser Soaking Solution or plain water when you have removed them. Always remember to avoid the use of hot water for soaking Dentures.
  • Brush your dentures like normal teeth to remove the food debris or plaque from them.
  • Before inserting your dentures, it is advisable to clean your gums, tongue, and palate using a soft bristle brush to eliminate plaque accumulation.
  • Visit your dentist whenever you witness a crack in your dentures.
